Kirk Magnuson started working on Kaptain in 2016. He has spent his entire life hiking, biking, camping, surfing, skiing, and spending time outside whenever he can. He has spent time helping disadvantaged youth get outside through organizations such as the YMCA, Boys & Girl Club, and Big Brother Big Sister.

He is fiercely passionate about digitizing outdoor recreation and making it more accessible for all.

He was joined by his brother, Erik in the fall of 2021 after Erik’s 4 year career in the NFL. They have been working on Kaptain ever since!

Kaptain is remote company, but we got our start in Denver, Colorado and San Diego, California.

We like to plan as many road trips as possible, so there’s a strong chance we are coming to a town near you!

We spend weeks researching activities in a specific area. We talk to locals, people who love traveling to that area, and finding whatever research we can.

We are focused on the most accessible and fun activities. While we would love to include all the activities at some point, we wanted to focus on curating activities at first.

We have prioritized the American West for our initial launch and will expand eastward as time goes on.

We have chosen the American west due to the sheer amount of outdoor activities as well as the culture around outdoor recreation.

Don’t worry, a major goal of ours is increase visibility around lesser known outdoor hubs throughout the midwest, southeast, and northeast.
